Presentation Title: Sustainable Smiles: Integrating Eco-Friendly Practices in Dentistry

Learning objectives:
1. Describe the impact of climate change on general and oral health.
2. Explain the environmental impact of dental practices.
3. Identify effective strategies to reduce waste and carbon emissions in dentistry.

About our Presenter: 
Bio: Dr. Ivy F. Lin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral Surgery and serves as the Assistant Director of the General Practice Residency at the University of Washington. She earned her DMD with distinction from McGill University and completed a General Practice Residency at the University of Washington. In 2022, Dr. Lin obtained a Master of Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where she focused on climate change mitigation and health policy. Her work since then has centered on advancing sustainability in dentistry through education, research, and advocacy. She founded the Climate Action and Sustainability Team at UW School of Dentistry, currently serves as Chair-Elect of the American Dental Education Association’s Sustainability in Dentistry Special Interest Group and is a member of the Climate Taskforce with the Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility. In recognition of her contributions to environmental sustainability in dentistry, Dr. Lin has received the Stephanie Davis Waste Reduction Award from Health Care Without Harm and the UW Husky Sustainability Award. Her overarching goal is to foster greater awareness, engagement, and research within the dental community about the environmental impacts of dental practice and the critical importance of sustainability in oral health care.
