Presentation: Integrating Myofunctional Therapy into Dental Sleep Medicine: A Comprehensive Approach.

This presentation explores the relationship between orofacial myofunctional disorders, sleep-disordered breathing, and obstructive sleep apnea. Participants will gain an understanding of how myofunctional therapy can complement oral appliance therapy and other airway-focused treatment modalities. Through clinical examples and practical implementation strategies, attendees will learn how to incorporate airway screening and myofunctional therapy into a dental sleep medicine workflow to improve patient outcomes and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.

About our Presenter: Dr. Heidi Johnson is a graduate of the University of Washington School of Dentistry, a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine, and owner of Island View Dental in Mukilteo, Washington.  After selling her traditional dental practice, she established a new practice focused on dental sleep medicine, airway health, and myofunctional therapy. Dr. Johnson collaborates closely with sleep physicians to provide evidence-based care for patients with sleep-disordered breathing through oral appliance therapy and myofunctional therapy. She is passionate about interdisciplinary airway care and educating healthcare providers on practical approaches to improving patient outcomes.
